Michelle Reeves of Mavion on The Limitless Possibilities of Web3

At its heart, being a founder is about being a pioneer – enthusiastically taking the leap and venturing into the unknown. Nobody exemplifies this spirit of exploration more than Michelle Reeves, Co-Founder & CEO of MAVION and, as described by Forbes, the “queen of crypto.” For women searching for their North Star in Web3, look no further – Michelle is the light you’ve been waiting for.

As recently as 2020, Michelle was building her jewelry company Accessory Junkie as a traditional Web2 model, but she was running into some problems helping independent designers scale in the Web2 structure. So she turned to the future and created MAVION, a global fashion and NFT marketplace offering access to collections of handmade, scarce, and unique fashion accessories that are bundled with MAVION NFTs.

The company is designed to link fashion and Web3, while providing support for independent artists and designers. By bridging the gap between the digital and the physical, Michelle and MAVION are providing a welcoming entry point for women interested in crypto and the metaverse.

For anyone, moving from a traditional Web2 model to exploring the limitless possibilities of Web3 can seem daunting, but for Michelle, that’s where the excitement is. As she told Forbes, “This ecosystem is so new, so it’s a lot of gut inclination. Decisions can’t be made with data or precedent. I mean, our model doesn’t exist. VCs are coming to us because they want to be in this experiment together.”

Q&A

Question: What has been the hardest moment for MAVION so far?

Answer:

Being early offers a ton of opportunity but it can also be the heaviest lift. We are creating a new standard in a new category, fashion NFTs. Building something that has never existed before requires additional explanation, time, and education. And it can change: as we build, new technology and new regulations are taking shape. We must remain agile and flexible while also being steadfast in our focus to bring our core vision to life.

Question: What do you see as the key driver of user trends over the next 2-3 years?

Answer:

Brands and products that can deliver real world benefits that make consumers’ lives easier will win. Our lives are filled with friction. Our model is designed so that ultimately your MAVION will go to work for you, delivering benefits you care about and returns that are meaningful so you can spend your time in the real world doing the things you love, with the people you love.

Question: What advice would you give to your younger self?

Answer:

  • Don't ask for permission, just go for it.
  • Don't wait for someone to tell you it's a good idea, just build it.
  • Don't wait to be discovered and invited up on stage, just build your own and stand in the middle of it taking up as much space as you can. Your voice matters, your ideas matter.
