About me
Jacq Tatelman is the driving creative force behind STATE Bags, a mission-driven accessory brand she founded in 2013 with her husband, Scot. A born-and-raised New Yorker, Jacq describes herself as having been “born in a rack of clothing,” growing up immersed in her parents’ boutique—and that early exposure laid the foundation for her design sensibility and love of fashion. State’s origins trace back to a deeper purpose: in 2009, Jacq and Scot founded Camp POWER, a nonprofit summer camp for kids from underserved communities. It was at camp that an empathy-forward moment—a camper arriving with all her belongings in a plastic bag—sparked the idea for STATE: every purchase fuels a backpack donation to a child in need. Since then, revenue has surged nearly 10x, propelling the brand into eight-figure territory and onto the Inc. 5000 list, ranked just outside the top 1,200 fastest-growing companies
